VIOLIN PEDAGOGY

Dr. Ching-Yi Lin currently teaches graduate Violin Pedagogy Classes I—III.  These classes teach students the necessary steps of being a successful violin teacher.  The students examine the stages of teaching beginning violin students to the advanced levels.  Dr. Lin encourages her students to develop various projects that stimulate their thinking and promote scholarship.  Projects currently in progress include a document that examines the study of fiddle music as it applies to classical violin teaching, beginning music theory pedagogy, and a systematic scale system book specifically designed for students in the WKU Pre-College Strings Program.  Dr. Lin’s pedagogy students have presented their projects at various music conferences, most recently in the Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference in Chattanooga and Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference in Louisville.

Graduate and select undergraduate students are assigned to observe group and private classes in the WKU Pre-College Strings Program.  By doing so, they learn how to effectively teach, run a class, organize recitals, or teach parents to work with their children at home.  WKU pedagogy students also perform with the pre-college strings program students in both on-campus and outreach recitals throughout the community.
